The affable Arie Holla and his team had toiled hard to make their inaugural tournament a success. The array of raffle prizes was magnificent, the novelty prizes innovative, and the specially designed challenge slips advertising the new club were an excellent concept. Outside the hall, one stepped onto Church Street Mall which was abuzz with activity. Many people were handing out pamphlets and at one stage I saw two scantily clad girls escorting a weirdo in a face-mask, whilst being filmed for who-knows-what.
Arie's raw enthusiasm caused a few details to be overlooked, such as the tournament director's list differing from the wall list for the first game. But because our Fred Reynolds is now an accomplished Director, he was able to sort out the problem fairly quickly. The net result was a bye in Intermediate.
It was pleasing to see Lynn Parnell win in advanced. Lynn has often volunteered her help at Masters tournaments, and was originally ably coached by Robyn Flynn.
Congratulation go to Arie and his team for successfully providing an enjoyable day of Scrabble for the NSW competition players.
Here are the results and ratings. Note that those in Advanced differ slightly from those computed on the day:
