Ulladulla Championship - May 2007

Report from Gary Pollard

The 1st tournament in the world to use the new Collins list was the Ulladulla Championship held over the weekend of 19th & 20th May (there was a British tournament scheduled for 19th May but they are 10 hours behind us).

The Mollymook Beachside Golf Club, a spectacular venue, was enjoyed by 66 competitors playing in 4 divisions. Everything went smoothly with just two minor TD adjudications necessary.

The new words proved very popular, with the 1st bonus new word being played in the first game by Sharon Sorensen, from the Central Coast, she played EXILERS against Sandra Elliott.

Novelty prizes for new words were awarded in each game and were well contested.

Of the four divisional winners Lexie Neale from Nowra playing in the Recreation division, who lost just one game over the weekend (to Yvonne Pollard from Ulladulla) was crowned the Champion with 13 wins over Advanced division Kerry Constable's 12 wins 986 margin, Intermediate division Christine Foot's 12 wins 399 margin (Kerry and Christine are both from Canberra), and Masters' Rod Talbot's 11 wins 860 margin.

Lexie received the championship cup and $100 in addition to her divisional 1st prize money of $150 and trophy, other placings in each division received 2nd $80, 3rd $50, 4th $20, and high word and game $10. Total prize money $1380, trophies + lunch provided both days, easily make this (and every other) year's tournament the highest prize money and best value for money club run event in NSW and indeed Australia.
