In Melbourne, Trevor Halsall faltered in his last game against David Lloyd to record a 19 point rating gain, 9 points short of Rod. A win in that game would have seen Trevor overtake Rod. Here at Blacktown I lost my third game against Joanne Craig but won the remainder to also record a 19 point gain, 7 points short of Rod.
Paul Cleary with an almost unassailable ratings lead got off to a shaky start by losing to Trish Windhurst in his first game, but steadied to successfully defend his qualifying position.
Joanne Craig who has been going from strength to strength accounted for Paul a bit later on to secure second place in Masters while evergreen John Barker also on 6 wins and now 2007 games got third with equal wins to Joanne and me.
In Recreation division Kath Davidson from the St George Club found STALKERS for 194 points to record a possible national high word record for 2001. The game score was recorded as 695 but the mathematics/authenticity of this score has yet to be verified.
After the tournament a small group of us headed for the Royal India Restaurant in Strathfield and caught up with Anthony Kaje, one of Bahrain's top players who is now working as a chef at that restaurant. Anthony intends to start his Sydney Scrabble career by visiting the Balmain BUGS club on Monday nights.
