In fact this change of format, coupled with the Victorian captain's insistence that NSW start first may well have been the undoing of the Vics. The Vics surely would have started favorites given the late withdrawal due to illness of NSW top seed Paul Cleary, but this did not deter the NSW team in their quest for back-to-back victories.
It is with eager anticipation that the ratings fluctuations are awaited, as there will surely be a flow of points back into NSW and ACT. Geoff Wright is currently reconstructing the tournament file so that the ratings can be calculated.
Best performers for NSW were Graeme Lock Lee, Jean McGiffen, Joanne Craig and John Barker all with 7 wins out of 10 games and for Victoria their captain Geoff Wright (caz) was impressive with 8 wins.
No prizes were awarded in the Challenge due to this being purely a team event to decide the strongest State. Better luck next year Victoria!
Running parallel with the Challenge was the Wagga Wagga Open, which was comprised wholly of NSW & ACT players. The large cash first prize for this event went to Ann Fiddler, one of the NSW chauffeurs, with an excellent nine wins. Margaret Ackman, one of Ann's passengers was also awarded a generous cash prize for being the best finsishing player rated under 1001.
