We started on time !!! Loud cheers ... and were out before 6pm after 8 games .... louder cheers !!
And thank you, Wilma for yet another superbly directed tournament in the comfortable Club Five Dock setting: we've booked the joint for the same traditional "First Sunday in March" next year. The smooth running of the BUGS tournaments drew several comments today: it is due in no small measure to the preparatory efforts of especially Joan, and Margaret, Ian, Greg and Nonie, whom I hereby thank profusely; Anne Fiddler, our tireless properties officer, contributed wholeheartedly as well. On ya, Anne. And the staff of the Club did us proud, again.
This year, there were 79 of us, including one novice player, Sandra da Silva, I trust (Guess who left the ratings list with Margaret Andrews? My apologies if I misremembered: Sandra was enjoying herself when last I spoke to her; I hope this state of affairs continued!)
So look for the results in due course to find out all the gory details: In Masters, I remember that Chris May had to go to a choir rehearsal, and picked up his First Prize as he left; Edward came second and collected the High Word and High Game awards; Bob Guess Who came third, and Robin Duncan collected the fourth prize.....he asked me if I could see anything on # HINDTOES ...well, eventually, after a couple of broad hints, minutes later, I could ...."A philosophical word", he told me ...."An ordinary word" he said.
Margaret Andrews went out in one of her games with the most topical move of the tourney ...BLNSSAEI ....She collected a certificate, as did Ian Close and Judy McGuiness: BUGS members did well today! By the way, said Certificates were designed by Graeme Lock Lee, and are peculiar (in more senses than one) to our tournament: thank you, GLL.
To be continued after the results are posted ...If you were there, please tell me if you know any tales of interest that deserve to be mentioned in the BUGS TOURNAMENT 2005 Report Part the Tooth .....
Salutations (with two Tees ...teeth, if you like ....)
What ho !! The results are out/in/published already...thank you, Bob !
So, as you can see for yourselves, in Advanced, Ian Close, as aforementioned, came first, with 7 out of 8 games; Raya Wilkinson, second; Ram Mohe, third, and Greg Pinchbeck fourth; Margaret's certificate was for the High Game; and Natalie Tadday played EQUALISE for 98.
In Intermediate, Judy Hay won 6 games to come first; Gordon Meggs, Daphne Bezuidenhout and Judy McGuinness all won 6 games as well, and collected their prizes in that order ....and Donna MacDonald scored 482 for the High Game, and 103 for the High Word, HEEDING.
In Recreation, the four place getters all won 6 games, but Jyoti Chanda's margin was the greatest, and Teresa Traynor, Colleen Walker and Ester Rolfe followed... in that order; Basil Sands scored 482 for his High Game, and John de Lange earned 94 for HEADERS.
Chris had won 7 out of 8 games, Edward and Bob, 6 each, and Robin, 5; Edward's High Game scored 539, and his YEASTIER, 158.
Creditable performances by all concerned.
Same place, same time, next year, Gwwp !!
