Sorry this is a little late in being reported but I have spent the day with my grandchildren, watching one of then play baseball, and the other two having a birthday party. Isn't that what all doting grannies do?
A great day was had by all who gathered once more in beautiful downtown Woy Woy on what, a lot of people said, was the coldest day we have had so far this winter.
At starting time we were a couple of people short. One lady missed her exit off the F3 and decided to withdraw. I phoned a local lady who thought the tournament was on the next day (Sunday) . She didn't live very far away though and made it in time for the first game. The last two showed up a few minutes later and we finally got started about 9.40am.
I must admit I sort of floated about all day, talking to people, selling more raffle tickets or just generally helping out. I feel sure that all players enjoyed their day, whether they were the winners or not.
Congratulations to Moana Nepia for winning the raffle. There were a lot of people who wanted to win this particular prize. I hope that she enjoys the board she won and will actually used it to play on, not just let it sit by and gather dust.
And now to the sectional winners on the day.
Recreation was won by one of our Woy Woy members, Judith Chessell. Wendy Evans, from Newcastle came second and Joy Morris from Sutherland (I believe) took out third place.
Intermediate saw another local, Joan Daniel, who only attends tournaments on the coast, in first place. She was also the biggest mover on the day with a rating gain of 106 points. Congratulations Joan. Kyrstyna Batten and Colin Driver filled second and third places respectively.
Advanced was taken out by the writer of this report. No one was more surprised that me for, as I said earlier, I just sort of floated about the whole day. I was usually late sitting down and just looked about for someone without a partner and, making sure I was at the right table, just sat down and played. It was nice to be back in the winners circle...It's been a long dry spell. Donna MacDonald was second with 5 and half wins and a visitor from the Kempsey Club, Vicki Underhill, came third. I must also thank Donna for finding my clock for me at the end of the days proceedings.
And now we come to Masters. In this section the male of the special excelled. Bob Jackman, the only player on the day to win 7 from 7, was in first place, Rod Talbot came in second and Matte Dunn from Victoria, our only interstate visitor, was in third place.
I would like to thank all who helped on the day, in whatever capacity, whether large or small, all efforts go towards the success of the tournament.
My thanks also to Wilma for her directorship of our tournament. She does a great job.
Last but by no means least, thanks to Dianne McDonald for stepping in at the last moment to be out "Look-up Girl".
I hope you will all come to Woy Woy on Saturday November 25, 2006 to play in out "NEW" Central Coast Tournament. More information about this later.
